Snorms 1.0b459

Snorms 1.0b459

Snorms has been updated to 1.0b459:

 • Small dialog changes
 • Missile launcher is now found a lot earlier in episode 1
 • Mini gun is now found on the “normal” route, where you were getting the missile launcher before (you will still get it on episode 2, I will remove it from there later)
 • Increased laser gun hit point at low level (no changes @lvl 20)
 • Small map modifications (in order to find exit a little more easily in some cases)
 • Episodes are now also available separately

Update is available on snorms.com, and will shortly be available on Desura (while waiting Desura users can use the Connect button on my game page).

Website update

A few changes on snorms.com:

 • Episodes can now be bought separately
 • Added link to Ubuntu Software Center
 • Added password recovery & password change screens

Snorms sale

It’s summer sale! Snorms full pack (all 3 episodes) is now available at 3.99€ (was 6.99€)

Random news

Long time without update, no Snorms is not dead, but I got a job now, so I have less time to work on Snorms.

Internal changes

Lots of internal changes lately: changed svn, refactored the whole project, cleaned up everything,…

Nothing visible from player point of view, but from my side now it’s a lot cleaner than before, everything is well organized and I can make releases a lot easier.

Individual episodes

Thanks to the point above, I can now separate snorms episodes (1, 2 and 3). This mean I will be able to sell them separately at low price. As an episode can be quite long (around 3-4 hours for me 4-6 hours for a new player, even more if you play in difficult mode) I think each episode can be considered as a game by itself.

This mean:

 • Episode 1, 2 and 3 will be sold 2.99 € each
 • The pack containing the 3 episodes will be sold 6.99 €
 • Of course, people who bought the game previously will have the full pack
 • I will only sell the full pack on Desura, as the upload process is too complicated to manage 3 different versions
 • Same for ubuntu software center, only the full pack will be sold there
 •
There might be a sale on the full pack soon
The release process, upload mechanism, and website update are done, and ready to publish. But before publishing I need to do more tests of course, I think I will do all the needed tests this week end.

Consumables power up

I began working on consumables power up, they are power ups that you will be able to buy before entering a level and that you can use whenever you like. They won’t be all available at start, it will depend on your character level.

As it’s still a Work In Progress, it won’t be available in the next update, but now that the release process has been made a lot easier, I guess I will be able to release this quite soon enough.

Another game

I began working on a new game with (at least) 2 friends, more news soon.

Debian package & upcoming features

Debian package

I’ve created a debian package for Snorms (and automated the creation process), so that it can be easily installed on a debian distribution (tested on ubuntu). It is only available on the full version on snorms.com.

The only difference between this version and the binary version is that it will now save configuration in $HOME/.config/snorms directory instead of $HOME/.snorms directory (the old one will still be used if it exists) as it seems to be the standard directory for ubuntu apps.

Upcoming features

 • I have decided to work on consumables items/power ups for Snorms, for example you will be able to buy a temporary invincibility power up to be used whenever you want. I have not yet decided exactly how it will work (unlockable items, prices, available power ups list,…) but as it won’t be hard to implement, I think an update will come soon with this feature.
 • One of the biggest problem of Snorms at the moment is graphics (and promoting of course), textures are almost okay, but monsters/player are not. I will try to use some voxel editor and see if I can get better results.
 • Splitted episodes: I think I will split episodes, and make them available for purchase separately (3€ each), I don’t know if I can do it on Desura, so I will make it available on snorms.com only at first. Of course you will need episode 1 before getting episode 2, and so on

Work in progress

Snorms

I’ve stopped developing Snorms for now, the 1.0 version seems to be working fine, and I won’t begin working on next features (multiplayer, online map sharing,…) until I can make some money with the game.

I’ve sent my press release to a lot of gaming sites, with no visible effects yet, I guess it will be very hard to get them to test my game, I knew it would take time, but it’s quite hard to wait.

New game

While waiting I have decided to begin another game with Cubor, it will be an android game, I won’t talk much about it for now, here’s a concept screenshot (inspired by pokemon, chars from tekepon.net)

Things will get slower within next days, as I will (hopefully) get a job, so I’ll have less time to work on game developpement.

Snorms 1.0b413

I’ve uploaded a small Snorms update (1.0b413) on snorms.com with minor bug correction (some maps have changed a little, camera was not centered on player after suicide, music was restarted after saving options, and water was sometimes green under Windows 7).

This version should be the final 1.0 release. I am doing a few more tests and I’ll upload it on Desura.

*update* version is now 1.0b418, I’ve corrected a small bug when opening doors that could slow down the game, and the kill percent was not correctly calculated at the end of the level
